Google’s New Nano Banana 2 Lite Aims to Deliver Faster, Cheaper Gemini Image Generation

HIGHLIGHTS
• Nano Banana 2 Lite generates AI images in as little as 4 seconds.
• Gemini Omni Flash lets developers create and edit AI videos using natural language.
• Both models are designed to speed up image and video creation workflows.

In addition to Nano Banana 2 Lite, Google has also introduced Gemini Omni Flash, a new AI model designed for video creation and editing. The latest releases are aimed at helping developers build image and video-powered applications more efficiently while reducing processing time and expenses.

Nano Banana 2 Lite: Features and Availability

Nano Banana 2 Lite

Google says Nano Banana 2 Lite has been developed to handle image generation at high speed while supporting large-scale workloads. The company claims the model can create images from simple text prompts in as little as four seconds, making it a practical choice for developers working on projects that require fast turnaround times. Google has also positioned Nano Banana 2 Lite as the successor to the original Nano Banana image model.

Although the focus is on speed, Google says the new model still delivers accurate prompt interpretation, maintains character consistency across multiple generations, and produces clear, readable text within images. These improvements are intended to ensure quality is not sacrificed for faster performance.

The model is now available across several Google platforms, including Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. Google is also expanding access through the Gemini app, AI Mode in Search, NotebookLM, Google Photos, Stitch, Google Flow, and Google Ads.

Gemini Omni Flash Brings AI Video Creation

Alongside Nano Banana 2 Lite, Google has started rolling out Gemini Omni Flash to developers via Google AI Studio and the Gemini API. First showcased at Google I/O, the model is designed to simplify AI-powered video creation and editing using natural language commands.

Omni Flash can understand and combine text, images, and video inputs to generate more consistent and context-aware videos. By leveraging Gemini’s underlying AI capabilities, the model aims to create videos that better match user intent while maintaining visual coherence.

Current Limitations

Despite its advanced capabilities, Gemini Omni Flash is still evolving. At present, it supports AI-generated videos of up to 10 seconds in length. Some features, such as audio reference uploads, scene extension, and full support for video references longer than three seconds, are not yet available through the Gemini API.

Designed to Speed Up Creative Workflows

Google says these two AI models are built to work together, helping developers streamline content creation. Users can quickly generate an image with Nano Banana 2 Lite and then use that image as a reference in Gemini Omni Flash to transform it into a short AI-generated video. According to the company, this workflow can reduce the time and effort needed to create visual content while delivering more consistent results.
